Fonseca Guimaraens Vintage Port 2018

- Impenetrable black-purple in the center, with a narrow violet band at the edge. The nose is dense and compact, with impressive depth. The fruit quality is superb, a delicious blend of black and red fruit aromas that is the hallmark of Fonseca Vintage Port wines, mixed with notes of dark chocolate. Around this core of powerful and complex fruit is an aura of balsamic and menthol aromas. Although the nose is sensual and seductive, it has an attractive firm outline, provided by graphite and a stony minerality. The first impression on the palate is of smoothness, but the tannins suddenly explode at the finish with an assertive pungency and a thread of acidity runs through the wine to give it a lively freshness. There is an abundance of crisp wild berry flavour that lingers on the long finish. This superb Guimaraens Vintage Port displays resilience and depth, yet is supple and expressive enough to drink early.
