Fonseca Vintage Port 2017

- A narrow magenta ring around a dark purple-black core. The nose opens with an explosion of dense, juicy dark forest fruits, mingled with fresher, more vibrant aromas of red berries. Minerality keeps this exuberant fruitiness under control. At this stage, the nose is still reserved and discreetly aromatic, revealing leafy, balsamic aromas and notes of cedar and sawn wood. The first impression on the palate, as on the nose, is of dense, dark wild berries, which then explode in the mid-palate and appear in the long finish. The texture is round and velvety, but the taut, vigorous tannins and a thread of crisp acidity give firmness and structure. The layered and complex fruit typical of Fonseca dominates this heavy and powerful wine.
