Krohn Quinta do Retiro New Vintage Port 2009

Deep purple core with narrow brick red rim. Vigorous, opulent berry fruit almost dominates the nose, a rich infusion of ripe black and red fruits. Notes of sawn wood, cigar box and liquorice gradually emerge, as well as light notes of dried rose and violet petals. The fruity, complex flavour re-emerges on the palate with intense flavours of strawberry, blackcurrant and plum that linger on the long finish. Superbly integrated tannins provide body and structure without interfering with the wine’s velvety texture. An exceptionally fine expression from the 2009, made with great ripeness and excellent fruit quality. Already seductive and approachable, but still showing plenty of structure and vigour.
